If you provide a car for an employee where there is any private use then they will be subject to a benefit in kind charge.
We remind you that if a car is provided or withdrawn then a form P46(Car) needs to be completed and submitted to HM Revenue & Customs.
You must fill in this form if there’s a change that affects car benefits that has not been payrolled for an employee or a director for whom a car is made available for private use. The form needs to be completed and submitted within 28 days of the end of the quarter to 5 July, 5 October, 5 January or 5 April in which the change takes place.
If we provide payroll services for you then we can make the submission on your behalf just let the executive that you deal with know.
As well as the employees details we will need the following details of the vehicle:
Make and model
Engine size
Date first registered
Emissions (grams of CO2 per kilometre, further details may be required)
Type of fuel or power used
List price of the car at the date first registered (not what was paid for it)
Price of accessories not included in the price
The date the car was made available
Details of any contribution made by the employee
Details of fuel provided for private use
